    We went the other way – we have some pretty complex segments. Users get into these segments either through campaign forms, or from campaigns that look at tags. Tags for us are an important secondary level of categorization.

    We did this because we wanted to be able to have a preferences page for users that give them some control over which groups they fall under. This seemed to only be possible using public segments or global categories. Global categories has some limitations that we couldn’t work around.
